Birding by Season’s COVID-19 Guidelines and Protocols (updated August 9, 2021)
Your health and safety are our top priority. We also care very much about the communities we visit and the people we work with. As the world begins to travel again, we want you to know that our COVID-19 guidelines and protocols have been updated to maintain a very high standard.
All tours at Birding by Season are subject to the following protocols and guidelines:
You must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccinations (2 shots of Moderna, Pfizer, Astra-Zeneca, or 1 shot of Johnson & Johnson) and that you are two weeks past your most recent shot.
All guides at Birding by Season are required to be fully vaccinated.
For 2021, all tours at Birding by Season are self-drive guided tours (your guide will be in a separate car). In this case, Canadian clients are not required to be fully vaccinated.
Physical Distancing and Masks:
We will practice physical distancing when we are together on a tour.
In the event that we are unable to maintain a physical distance of 2 meters (6 feet), we ask that you bring a mask with you to wear at public indoor spaces and outdoor settings.
To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we encourage people to wear a mask indoors even when it is not required.
Hygiene and Sanitation:
We ask that you bring hand sanitizer to wash/sanitize your hands immediately after touching communal surfaces such as railings, handles, doorknobs, and other areas of public sites.
High-touch communal surfaces in the vehicle will be disinfected frequently.
We recommend you bring your own binoculars, scope and camera and avoid sharing them with others; disinfect the eye caps of all bird-viewing equipment following your birding tour. When sharing our spotting scope, we’ll clean high-touch areas like the handle and focus ring regularly.
Avoid sharing phones to review checklists. We will confirm our checklists verbally, making any necessary corrections and re-sharing them after they have been submitted to eBird, if need be.
We will seek out accommodations and restaurants with high cleaning standards and physical-contact guidelines.
A pre-screening questionnaire must be completed by all clients within 48 hours of the start of any half day, single day or multi-day tour.
If you have been in contact with someone testing positive for COVID-19, you will not be permitted to join the tour.
All guides at Birding by Season must complete the pre-screening questionnaire.
If you are experiencing any of the following COVID-19 symptoms, you will not be permitted to join the tour:
- new or worsening cough
- shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- temperature equal to or over 38°C
- feeling feverish
- fatigue or weakness
- muscle or body aches
- new loss of smell or taste
- Headache (unexplained or unusual)
- gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting)
- feeling very unwell
Guides who experience any of the COVID-19 symptoms listed above, will not be permitted to join the tour.
We will help facilitate a COVID-19 test, if you require one to return to your home country following your tour with us. However, the cost for this COVID-19 test is your responsibility.
During our tours, all clients and guides are required to complete a self-assessment daily and any symptoms are to be reported immediately to your guide.
If someone experiences symptoms of COVID-19 during one of our tours, we will help facilitate a test as quickly as possible during the tour. In the event of a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19, we will take appropriate action based on the recommendations of local health professionals. Any expenses for medical attention, testing, or self-isolation are the responsibility of the client.
We strongly recommend that you have an insurance policy that covers you if you get COVID-19 or are required to isolate due to exposure to someone with COVID-19.
You are required to contact Birding by Season if you test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of returning from a tour with us.
We continue to follow the Public Health Guidance for Newfoundland and Labrador and check the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador COVID-19 website daily for the most up to date information, to ensure our guidelines and protocols are in line with current health regulations.
We want you to have an amazing and safe birding experience, while enjoying yourself with confidence as we take you on a journey through Southwestern NL.
